THERE IS NO SWEET FELLOWSHIP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ?????

I attended a christian secondary school (boarding house). On one particular night after our routine evening devotion (which I hated going for, I was a professional stabber) as we were sharing (more like chanting) the grace:

The grace of the lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the sweet fellow..... the house mistress on duty Miss Alagbe, interrupted us:

STOP THERE!! STOP!! THE SWEET FELLOWSHIP?? PLEASE OO NO FELLOWSHIP OF THE HOLYSPIRIT IS BITTER OO, MY OWN HOLYSPIRIT (LOL AS PER NA SHE GET HOLYSPIRIT NA) FELLOWSHIP IS NOT BITTER, SO THERE CANNOT BE A SWEET FELLOWSHIP OF THE HOLYSPIRIT.
And she directed us to say the grace again, this time around we of course omitted the sweet part and made it the end without her interruption

Weirdly at that point it kinda made sense to me, even though I had no personal relationship with the holyspirit.

Fast forward to now, when by God's grace I can definitely say I have a relationship with the holyspirit.

Thinking of the above scenario, I disagree with Miss Alagbe completely.

Can there be a sweet fellowship of the holyspirit??

Firstly a fellowship can be defined as a communion, a relationship, a friendship.

The sweet in front of it is more of an adjective, used to qualify the relationship or fellowship.

The holyspirit is the third person in the trinity, he is the part of the God head Christ left with us, when he left earth, so we don't feel lost and confused, in this world as he was no longer going to be on earth, he left his spirit with us so we can ALWAYS!! have communion with him, as he dwells in us.
So just incase you were wondering it is 100 percent possible to have a genuine and real relationship with the person of the holyspirit.

While I do not think there is a bitter fellowship of the holyspirit, I know there can be a sweet, exciting, wondeful, thrilling fellowship of the holyspirit.

Our relationship or fellowship with the holyspirit depends on our depth with him, and how much we are ready to yield to him.

Think of it as your relationship with a person, how you classify your relationship with a person depends on how far you have gone with the person.

Personally I would not say my relationship with the holyspirit is always sweet, especially, those times when I want to react to a situation with le sharp , mouth and he restrains me, and I have to laugh away a persons insult or rude behaviour. It's not always exactly lovey dovey all the way, we have our rough patches et al, but ultimately I am able to think upon how he makes me feel and say I have a sweet sweet thing going on with him.

I am able to look back, think back and see the love in it. Feel the love through the times of correction, rebuke and everything.
And our moments of fellowship...oo sweet sweet feeling it gives me, the ability to talk about everything and anything with him, being able to commune with him, and feel his love and presence does unexplainable things to me, lol sometimes thinking about it makes me blush and laugh without reason.

I can boldly say I have a sweet fellowship with the holyspirit. Sweet is even an understatement to it.

In conclusion while, Paul didn't use the word sweet when he wrote out the part of scripture which we now say as the grace, in my very humble opinion, I don't see any thing wrong scripurally with qualifying the fellowship of the holyspirit as sweet, delicious, overwhelming, exciting, or any adjective you want to qualify it as.

It depends on who he is to you, what you share with the spirit, would inspire what you want to classify his fellowship as.

On a lighter note I don't say "sweet fellowship" when saying the grace till date because of that woman...hmmm maybe I should start saying it again.

I would love to hear your opinions, is it scripturallly wrong to say the "sweet fellowship"?, can there be a bitter fellowship? What do you classify your fellowship with the holyspirit as.

The title of this post is inspired by an excerpt I read from moyosmiles.com you all should check it out.

  1. You are very right. These teachers in schools where there are lotsa growing up kids oughta be careful, cos anything they sell a kid, he or she unconsciously internalizes and grows up with. She shouldn't have it made it sound so bad and criminal to say. Nevertheless, it's not in the scripture, but just the same way one can qualify anything just to express such thing as nearly as it is to him or her, so can the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be qualified. So who says one can't even have a 'romantic' relationship or fellowship with the Spirit? Great one. More Grace in the exams.
